In 1862, Union soldiers at Fort Pulaski first tested a rifled cannon during the Civil War. The cannon eventually made brick fortifications useless. The fort had also been used as a POW camp. It has been rumored that at night, this historic site is filled with ghosts that come to relive their past. People have reported hearing unexplained sounds including screams of people dying, gunshots, and a small child crying.
